Ecco The Dog

That's him--our new dog. At least he will be if all goes according to plan. We pick him up on June 1. And then, as you would assume, start to train him to herd sheep. And, if we have time, to rescue mountaineers. I also have an idea that we might be able to lease him to a movie studio, for shots when they need a trained killer attack dog, but that's still working itself out.

Savage-looking, isn't he?

He's a Maltese. Right now, we don't have a name. So if anyone has any good ideas (GOOD IDEAS, Johannes), please--send them along.

By the way, "Xerxes" is already out. I tried, but the wife's anti-Persian bias pretty much makes that impossible.

Those are the first three that come to mind.

That dog is insanely cute.

I usually pick pet names based on personality. The exception has been Lenora (tell this soul with sorrow laden...).

Unless needy, fat goth chicks are usually called 'Lenora.'

I'm very excited for youg guys, and more than a little jealous. I know it's a big step for one of you.

I like his face - dignified, yet cute at the same time. As you know I'm a huge dog fan, and wish I had ten or twelve at home. Unfortuately, I'm too lazy to groom or walk my house plants much less a dependant mammal. So, as you might imagine I've given some thought to dog names.

Since I love you both, I'll share with you a portion of my super secret Best Dog Names List. He should also have a catchphrase.

He's so cute. He's even gayer than our dog.

Per James's proclamation, the dog's name is Fidel.

Very cute, indeed. I have always named my pets after favorite TV characters. When I was growing up I had our dog Roscoe (of Dukes of Hazzard). My cat is Maurice (from Northern Exposure).

The Sopranos offers some good dog names:

Silvio
Pauly Walnuts
Ralphie
Corrado
Big Pussy
Furio
Bacala
Hesh
Johnny Sack
Little Carmine

Or, your favorite show The Wire:

Kima
Bubbles
Carver
Herc
Lester
Prez
Bunk
Avon
Stringer Bell
Poot
Bodie
Wallace
Omar
Wee Bey
The Greek
Prop Joe
Marlo
Cutty
Dukie
Namond

The Wire idea is a great one -- Bodie or Bunk would be an awesome name for that dog.

I call my dog stinkum quite often. And I don't understand a word of the Wire.

Dr. Gullett,
Only you could have composed such a ROCKIN' list of dog names. My favorites are Prof. Foofy-woofy and William Howard Taft, The Dog. I'm afraid the latter might overwhelm him, though, since he is 9 weeks old and 2.5-3 lbs. But then, I guess we all have to grow into our names, right? Anyway, you are deserving of much praise.

JMW-I am diggin' Wendall.
