It was really, really bad. Even for its genre--women in New York making it and falling in love and wearing fabulous shoes--it was a low. I more or less liked "The Devil Wears Prada", so I'm not totally impervious to the charms of such a movie. But this...this makes "Devil Wears Prada" look like Andrei Rublev.
Even a cast that included Joan Cusack, John Goodman, John Lithgow, and Fred Armisen--all of whom I generally admire--couldn't save it.
No, you're looking at this all wrong. You went to see that film not only because you love your wife, but because you love that the novelist who wrote "Confessions if a Shopaholic" now has a movie deal. You went out of writerly solidarity. Really, Sophie Kinsella gives us all hope.
Cartooniste, I haven't yet had a chance to read the Kinsella book (ahem) but I can say without the slightest hope of being contradicted that your laundry lists are ten times better written and more movie-worthy.
Actually I would bet the books are quite a bit better than the movie. They would almost have to be.
And, bad as the movie was, we still had a good time. Because we got to hold hands and BE IN LOVE. (Kissy kissy).

So: Still love her?
I'd say my love has diminished by 12%.

Not really. For a "girl loves shoe, shoe makes girl's dreams come true" kind of movie, it was pretty weak.
